“You’re allowed to build the career you wish existed. If no one else is solving the problem—why not you?”

 - Sean Duncan

Biography

Sean Duncan never set out to be an accountant—his dream was to join the FBI. Accounting was simply the fastest path. But one day in class, after watching a video about how accountants helped catch Al Capone, Sean had what he calls a “legit epiphany.” He realized accounting wasn’t just about numbers…it was about impact.

That spark eventually led him to build SMD Consulting & Accounting, LLC, a firm dedicated to helping small business owners minimize taxes, improve cash flow, and redesign their work/life balance. Sean is constantly pushing his team to innovate and deliver value in new, meaningful ways.

By 2017, despite owning one of the largest firms in his city, Sean knew something wasn’t right. Clients needed guidance—not just tax returns. So he made a bold move: he fired thousands of tax clients in 30 days and rebuilt his firm around PROACTIVE advisory services. That transformation became the foundation for the Chief Proactive Advisor model, which he now teaches to CPAs across the country.

Sean believes accountants already possess the knowledge to change clients’ lives—they just need the confidence and tools to share it. Through his Family Office Advisory System, he EMPOWERS CPAs to shift from compliance to true advisory, creating deeper impact and unlocking new revenue streams.

But Sean isn’t all strategy and spreadsheets. Students love him for his down-to-earth personality—whether he’s devouring 20 cookies, wearing Stormtrooper armor for charity, or settling in for a 15-hour video game marathon. His enthusiasm for life is matched only by his devotion to his wife and children.
