What I love about accounting is that it has a clear structure. There’s a logical flow to it, and it hasn’t really changed in hundreds of years. That kind of consistency is nice—it gives you a solid foundation to work from.

But I’m also someone who’s really curious. I always find myself asking, “Why does it work that way?” and “Can we make it better?” I like understanding the “how” behind things, and that’s what keeps me engaged.

That’s why being an entrepreneur is such a good fit for me—it lets me explore new ideas and try things out. I get to be innovative, but still stay grounded in something structured like accounting. It’s not about throwing out the rules, but more like asking, “What if we tried this?” and seeing how far we can take it.

I also love figuring out how healthy a business is and what direction it could go in to grow. As a solution consultant, I get to map things out—almost like solving a puzzle—and help people avoid problems before they happen. It’s definitely more creative than people think accounting is!

And now, as an author, I’ve tapped into my creative side even more. I write about personal finance in a way that’s simple and easy to understand—no complicated jargon—because I want people, especially young people, to feel confident about money. I want them to feel like, “Hey, I can actually do this.”

My biggest challenge is learning how to set limits—especially with how many roles I take on. As an entrepreneur, especially in small businesses, you end up doing everything. And while that can be a good thing—you learn how everything works—it can also be a trap.

The more you know how to do, the harder it is to let go and let other people take over those responsibilities. But if you want to grow, you have to let others step in, especially people who are experts in those areas. It’s something I’ve had to be really intentional about—deciding where my time is best spent and learning not to spread myself too thin.

I think a lot of students can relate to that—feeling like you have to juggle everything all at once. Whether it’s school, work, internships, or extracurriculars, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. I’ve been learning (and still am!) that it’s okay to step back when needed and that balance is important, no matter how passionate or driven you are.
