Biography

Rebecca “Becky” DuPree is a seasoned accounting professional with over 30 years of experience in public accounting, internal audit, and fraud detection. As Director of Compliance for the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office, she specializes in uncovering discrepancies, protecting public funds, and strengthening internal controls—making her one of the county’s most reliable truth detectors. She’s able to spot deception in financial statements faster than most people can balance a checkbook. Her ability to blend big-picture strategy with laser-focused attention to detail sets her apart in the profession.

Born and raised in Mercedes, Texas, Becky earned her accounting degree from UT Rio Grande Valley and an MBA from Sam Houston State University. Interestingly, Becky’s original dream was to become a lawyer, inspired by hours of watching L.A. Law. But FATE HAD OTHER PLANS. She quickly discovered that her keen eye for numbers and natural analytical skills made her a force to be reckoned with in public accounting and internal audit.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Becky has worked on everything from hotel tax analytics to exposing nonprofit fraud schemes. Her blend of BIG-PICTURE STRATEGY and meticulous attention to detail sets her apart in the profession.

Becky’s personal journey is just as inspiring as her professional one. Becky’s transition reflects her commitment to living authentically—and her courage in doing so inspires others to do the same. Her resilience through career setbacks, workplace challenges, and even a cancer diagnosis demonstrates the strength and perseverance she brings to every aspect of her life.

Known for her COMPASSION and MENTORSHIP, Becky continues to champion authenticity and growth in the accounting profession, reminding students that success is built not only on technical skills, but on COURAGE, KINDNESS, and staying true to who you are.
